Ian Sommerville has been Professor of Software Engineering at Lancaster since 1986. He is notorious for his software engineering textbook which has been around for a long time. His current research interests are in system requirements engineering and system evolution. He has worked with colleagues in the Sociology Department since 1990, when the Lancaster group were amongst the first to explore the possibilities of this type of inter-disciplinary cooperation.
