Bev's research interests mainly concern ways of evaluating dependability using mathematical and probabilistic modelling. He is particularly interested in the ways in which very disparate types of evidence can be combined in this kind of evaluation, e.g. using Bayesian Belief Nets. Most recently he has worked on issues concerning fault tolerance in software based systems, particularly trying to understand the role and efficacy of diversity: such work forms a theme of the IRC.
