PRODIGY: Overview and demonstration of a decision-support program developed for General Practitioners

Sugden R.C., Wilson R.G., Hall R.W., Jones N.K., Purves I.N., SCHIN

PRODIGY is an interactive decision-support program which sits on the GP's computer, within the current clinical software, and offers authoritative, professional advice during the consultation, including treatment options, prescription advice, care planning and patient information leaflets. It allows easy, transparent, decision making which can involve patients at every stage.

Within PRODIGY clinicians have access to up-to-date material, which can save time in reading through piles of periodicals or in trips to the library. PRODIGY brings the latest validated treatment options and advice on planning care directly to the computer on the GPs desk as well as providing a wealth of materials for lifelong learning.

The team will present about the past development of PRODIGY through iterative development cycles in partnership with the NHS Executive, GP system suppliers and the GP user community. There will then be a presentation demonstrating the current development system currently being piloted in 20 practices in England.
